Given all the current restrictions due to the COVID 19 pandemic, considerable advance planning has gone into ensuring that the Santa experience will be as safe as possible and will be going ahead as planned this year.

Due to restricted numbers allowed on site, this year’s Crossmolina Christmas Market will take place over two weekends on December 12th &13th as well as 19th & 20th.

A whole new Santa experience has been planned which is now under construction to guarantee Christmas cheer in a safe environment.

“We’re all very excited about the arrival of Santa this year,” said Hugh Trayer, Manager of The North Mayo Heritage Centre. “We have put a huge amount of thought and resources to make sure that we are fully compliant with all COVID guidelines and that we create a safe bubble for our visitors to experience the joy of Christmas and the traditional visit to Santa.”

The former Forge building which has been used as an artist studio until very recently will be re-imagined into a Santa wonderland.

The Centre has installed a mobile sanitization unit ensuring the air is constantly treated.

All visitors (including Santa and the Elves) will be temperature checked on arrival and mask wearing will be mandatory.

Numbers will be limited to six families per hour and tickets must be booked and paid for in advance.

A professional photographer will be on site to record the special moments if visitors would like to have a photograph taken of all the family with Santa.

Once again there will also be an outdoor Christmas Market for visitors to enjoy, though smaller in size this year visitors will be asked to respect social distancing guidelines at all times.

Each weekend the Kaffa Coffee Cafe will be open serving their unique brand of coffees, smoothies, treats and light lunches.

“I love coming to Crossmolina to meet all the boys and girls every December,” said Santa on his recent visit to the area.

“I know that this year it will be a worry because of the COVID 19 pandemic. I have been to the North Mayo Heritage Centre to make sure everything will be just fine. I have brought lots of hand sanitizers, masks and a special machine that sprays a very fine mist into the air to make the experience as safe as possible.”

Tickets will go on sale from Tuesday,  October 6 at 10am and cost €20 per child with adults free.

There will be no charge to attend the Christmas Market.

Each child who visits Santa will receive a quality toy, a certificate to confirm they are on the ‘good list’, some reindeer food as well as a small treat.

The professional photographer will charge €12 per photo and prints will be presented in a mount which will be available for collection on leaving.

To make a booking to see Santa please call 096 31809 from 10am on Tuesday 6th October.
