The Organic Garden

The Organic Garden is situated within the three-acre walled garden of Enniscoe House which was first laid out in the 1840s. Today the garden is divided into two parts; one acre of ornamental garden and two acres of organic fruit and vegetables garden.

The garden was certified organic in 1995, making it the one of the oldest certified organic gardens in the country.  Through the hard work of a small team, the garden produces over 40 different varieties of organic fruit and vegetables, in open plots and 4 large polytunnels. The garden is also home to a large number of heritage apple trees.

The garden sells seasonal produce throughout the year, as well as herbs and plants.  Produce from this garden was shortlisted by Bord Bia in the recent Organic Food Awards.

A more recent addition are the hops, which are being grown to supply a local producer who is working in partnership with North Mayo Heritage Centre to produce a local organic ale.
