Researching your family history
The Family History Research Unit at the North Mayo Heritage and Genealogical Centre is the premier resource for genealogical research in the north County Mayo, Ireland. The Family History Research Unit works with clients world wide who are keen to trace their roots from Mayo.

Please note that research requires time. If you are travelling to Co. Mayo to visit your ancestral homeland, we strongly encourage you to contact our researchers as far in advance of your visit as possible, in order that you may get the most benefit form the research we conduct for you.
Unfortunately, due to demand for our services, it is no longer possible to carry out research projects at short notice, or on a same day basis.

The centre has compiled a complete database of all the major genealogical resources relating to North Mayo. The database contains over 1.2 million records. Records for the remaining parishes of Co. Mayo are held at the South Mayo Family History Centre in Ballinrobe.

Commissioned Research Time

Contact us to commission a period of research time to suit your needs. Research is charged at €45 per hour. Typically research is commissioned in the following blocks:

2 Hours, €70: This can help to solve a specific question in your research, help to get you started.

4 Hours, €150: This is a useful entry level of research, which can provide a basis for your ancestry. It can also help to resolve multiple questions in your ongoing research.

6 Hours, €210: This is more detailed research, which can be used to examine your ancestry within the context of Irish records.

10 Hours €350: This is suitable for those either wishing to have in-depth research carried out, including records of their ancestors up to the point of emigration from Ireland, or for those seeking in depth research of their ancestors' lives after emigration

12 Hours €420: Suitable for a project which researches your ancestors from the earliest available records to as recent as date as possible within Ireland.

You can also choose to have your research produced in an elegant book format.
If your research is of a substantial nature, you may wish to have the finished piece presented as a Family History Report. The report can be presented in digital or in hard bound format (A4 sized). Extra copies are also available with this option. Quotations for these extras can be provided at the time.
